ROUND 2 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

After a tough first round, the Be Active Perth Wheelcats have bounced back with a sweep of the Adelaide Thunder to consolidate a position in the top four, led by four-time Paralympian Shaun Norris.

He recorded three straight triple-doubles while averaging 37.3 points, 14 rebounds, 11.7 assists and three steals per game in a dominant performance at both ends of the floor.

On Friday night, Norris set the tone for the weekend by scoring Perth’s first ten points and he had 12 to go with six rebounds and two assists by quarter-time.

He helped the Wheelcats assert a 15-point lead as well and they went on double that margin for the final result while he achieved the triple-double with two minutes remaining when he found Andrew Dewberry for a basket.

Defensively, Norris was just as impressive with three steals as well as a block on Will Stephens.

The following day Norris was even more destructive at the offensive end, recording 44 points on 19-30 shooting which included two three-pointers as he hurt Adelaide from all areas of the floor.

He did most of his damage in the first half, scoring 15 points in the first quarter with the Wheelcats opening up a six-point lead.

Norris then turned on the afterburners, scoring 21 of Perth’s 25 points in the second quarter and knocking down the two three’s while out-scoring the Thunder’s total of 13 easily.

Also pulling down 17 rebounds, Norris almost doubled up the next best total of any player while he reached his second triple-double with just under eight minutes remaining before sitting out the final few minutes.

On Sunday, the Aussie Roller completed a spectacular round with 33 points, 12 boards and 13 assists as he collected the triple-double with two minutes to go.

Adelaide took it up to Perth in their third meeting though, trailing by just four points at half-time before a 10-18 third term resigned them to another defeat as they fell 52-66.

Norris scored 11 points in the key third term before drilling another three-pointer in the final quarter as he played every minute in an important victory for the Wheelcats.

Doing everything on court for Perth, Norris now sits second in the league for scoring, fifth for rebounds and first for assists as the only player in the competition to be averaging a triple-double.

Shaun Norris Round 2 Stats: 37.3 points on 58% shooting including 4-10 three-point shooting, 14 rebounds (2.3 offensive), 11.7 assists and three steals per game.
