ROUND 2 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

A consistent weekend for CJ McCarthy-Grogan of the Sydney Metro Blues has seen him earn the Round 2 Player of the Week award.

Arriving to the Blues in 2017 coming off a US college Championship with the University of Texas at Arlington Movin' Mavs, McCarthy-Grogan looks to have cemented a starting role this year.

He averaged 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, five assists and two steals in three clashes against the Wollongong Rollerhawks and a victory in the second meeting helped secure second place on the ladder for the Blues at the end of the weekend.

On Friday night, McCarthy-Grogan had 16 points on 8-18 shooting while leading his club with eight rebounds and four assists.

His active defence also saw him collect four of Sydney Metro’s ten steals but his side were never able to recover from a slow start as they fell by 20 points.

The following night was a different story as the Blues opened up an eight-point advantage at the main break.

McCarthy-Grogan was on fire from the opening tip, collecting 14 points in the first term before getting his team mates involved with four assists in the second quarter and capping it off with a steal to go into half-time with a handy lead.

Wollongong responded in the third, taking the lead on the last possession of the period but the Blues rallied to win the final quarter 21-16 as McCarthy-Grogan finished with a game-high 24 points.

He added another eight rebounds including two offensive while his assists and two steals were both team-highs.

In the final game of the weekend, McCarthy-Grogan again proved a thorn in the side of the Rollerhawks as he added another 15 points, six rebounds and three assists in just 19 minutes.

Wollongong were able to prevail though, succeeding 72-60 despite McCarthy-Grogan also hitting the only three-pointer of the game.

The Blues star now sits fifth in the league for points per game (20.3) and third overall for free-throws made (12).

Clarence McCarthy-Grogan Round 2 Stats: 18.3 points on 23-59 shooting (39%) including 2-5 three-point shooting, 7.3 rebounds, five assists and two steals per game.
