2016 KEVIN COOMBS CUP BEGINS TODAY

The 2016 Kevin Coombs Cup begins today in Forestville, South Australia with 12 NWBL players representing all five competing teams in the tournament.

The Championship presents the only opportunity for junior wheelchair basketballers to represent their state in a national tournament with the age restrictions following international guidelines; Under-23 for men and Under-25 for women.

Having won the past two tournaments, Queensland’s odds for a three-peat have increased as they have sent two teams to compete this year.

WA will be seeking redemption after falling by ten points in the 2015 Grand Final while the always prideful Victorian side will be hoping to move up the podium after winning a bronze medal last year.

From the Sydney Metro Blues, Australian Gliders Jess Cronje and Georgia Munro-Cook will compete for New South Wales alongside NWBL team mates Anderson Parker and Benjamin Meoli.

The Kilsyth Cobras also have four players at the Kevin Coombs Cup with Maxx Darby, William Crooks, Brian Carminati and Jeremy Tyndall playing for Victoria.

The RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets have sent Jake Fulwood and Thomas Holland to represent Queensland Navy while the northern state’s second team, Queensland Gold, will have Corey Lawton from the Red Dust Heelers.

Finally, Western Australia will have Thomas McHugh from the Perth Wheelcats.

Each team will play their opposition once in the group games from Wednesday to Friday before the Grand Final and third-placed playoff are held this Saturday.

Keep an eye on the Basketball Australia social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat for all the information regarding the tournament.
