Be Active Perth Wheelcats Take Championship

Be Active Perth Wheelcats returned to the top of the NWBL taking out the 2013 Championship in an action-packed finals weekend.

The Wheelcats matched up against the Wollongong Rollerhawks in the first Semi-Final on Friday night, and although the Rollerhawks started strong the Wheelcats took the game 75-69 earning them a day of rest and a ticket straight to the Grand Final. The second semi-final between the RSL Qld Spinning Bullets & Victoria proved to be the upset of the weekend with Victoria taking the win 68-67 over the favourites and putting themselves into the preliminary final against the Rollerhawks.

The preliminary final was clockwork for the Rollerhawks who controlled the game from the tip-off, Victoria played a strong in the final quarter to close the gap but unfortunately it was not enough to gain a spot in the Grand Final.

The bronze medal match saw the Spinning Bullets come back strong to take the win over Victoria 63-57 to take third place. The Grand Final however proved to be the nail-biter with the Wollongong leading for the first half it seemed as if the Wheelcats had no answers and were going to end their undefeated season in the game that counted most. They came out halftime swinging with a massive third quarter that put them in the lead and eventually won the game 71-59.
