Adelaide Don't Let Up Easy

The RSL QLD Spinning Bullets made the trip to Adelaide to start their season and it was made abundantly clear to them that Adelaide aren’t just there to make up numbers. The Thunder went 0-2 on the weekend but put in two very impressive performances and could be a real chance to break their recent play-off drought.

Game One went down to the wire with the Spinning Bullets eventually pulling clear for an 81-74 win.

Agustin Alejos-Alonso put up a round high 41 points in the win with new teammate Nick Radovich chimed in for 20. Alonso and Radovich combined for 25 rebounds which included a massive 11 boards at the offensive end.

Luke Watkins picked up where he left off in 2012 with 29 points but the most encouraging sign for Adelaide was the support he received. Scott Crowley had 14; Tony Wade added 10 and Adelaide may have found a player in rookie one pointer Samuel White who also scored 10 points on debut.

QLD took game two 77-52 but were far from having it their own way. They again had no answers for Luke Watkins as helped himself to another 28 points. As a whole Adelaide were defensively very good forcing 19 turnovers from Spinning Bullets. They also got off more shots than the Spinning Bullets but let themselves down with just 32 % from the field, missing too many shots from under the basket.

At the other end of the floor Alonso had 27 points all coming from inside the key way. A super consistent Radovich had another 21 points and Bridie Kean (10) and Adrian King also found themselves keeping the score table busy.

The biggest thing to take out of this performance was; write Adelaide off at your own peril. The Spinning Bullets are a very good offensive team and the Thunder were able to match them in almost every area. They are a little bit undersized and will be tested in round two when they have to face both Perth and Wollongong but should not be discouraged. They will win games in 2013 and are every chance to play finals basketball in August.
