Gliders spoil host's party

The Australian Gliders women’s wheelchair basketball team have improved to 2-0 after defeating host nation Great Britain in their second pool game of the London Paralympic Games, 51-24.

Amber Meritt top-scored for the Gliders with 10 points, while Cobi Crispin added eight points and seven rebounds.

Judith Hamer was the best for the host nation with just eight points as the Gliders defence stifled the British offence.

In a low-scoring affair, the Gliders took an 11-5 lead into quarter time.

Australia outscored the Brits 14-6 in the second period to establish a 25-11 lead by the main break.

The Gliders defence then kept Great Britain to just three points in the third period to ensure the win.

Australia enjoyed a 47-29 edge in the rebounding battle, as well as a 36-10 advantage in points in the paint.

The Gliders next face Canada at 3:30AM on Sunday morning Australian Eastern Standard Time.
