Sydney Uni wheels into finals
It took until the final game of the season, but Wheelkings have secured themselves a spot in the finals series after defeating the Rangers over the weekend. After going down to them 81-63 on Saturday night, Wheelkings were feeling the pressure knowing they needed a win on Sunday to secure themselves the fourth spot in finals above the Spinning Bullets. Playing full minutes, their starting five, Grogan, Meoli, Cannane, Voncina and Gauci brought the game home in a thrilling 52-50 finish.
Dandenong kicked the game off gaining a 12-0 lead early in the first quarter. Finally finding their momentum Wheelkings fought back hard for the rest of the half and went into the break with a 5 point lead, 29-24. Dandenong chased hard in the third quarter to take back the lead, however it was the final that everyone on the edge of their seats, with 8 lead changes and over half the quarter spent on equal points. Wheelkings thrived under the pressure in the end to bring the minor rounds to a close with a win that guaranteed their spot at finals. Grogan top scored the game with 19, followed closely by other team mates Cannane (15) and Voncina (14), Del Toso top scored for Rangers with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Sydney Uni Wheelkings and Dandenong Rangers will now both head to Shellharbour along with Perth Wheelcats to take on Wollongong in the final series on 15-17 June. Click here for all the details.
