THE GOOD

A year away from the competition and what looked like a lack of experience on paper did not bother the Wheelcats as they raced into the Grand Final. Much of that success has to be credited to Kelvin Browner who earned Coach of the Year as well as Kim Robins (18.8 points per game) and Amber Merritt (11.1 points) with Robins recording five double-doubles in his last six clashes. To nobody’s surprise, Shaun Norris earned the Mid-Point MVP.

THE BAD

Finishing the regular season in second place, Perth earned a double-chance which they needed after falling to Kilsyth in the Semi-Final by a point. That gallant effort may have been too taxing on the team though as they lost by 26 points in the Grand Final with Norris held to 10-32 shooting.

STANDOUT PERFORMER

As mentioned above, Norris earned the Mid-Point MVP for the season after averaging an unbelievable triple-double of 31.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 11.3 assists. He was the league leader in all three categories and also nailed five more three-pointers than any other player and his performance in the Semi-Final was something to behold as he almost dragged the Wheelcats over the line with 30 points, eight boards and ten assists.

Next Year

With the experience that many players will have gained through the regular and post-season in 2016, the Wheelcats are sure to be back with a vengeance in 2017. With Norris at the helm, the side will never be out of contention at the offensive end and a deeper bench could be the difference for next year.
