ROUND 1 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Wollongong Rollerhawks are off to the perfect start in their Championship defence and Brett Stibners has also followed his 2017 Finals MVP with the Round 1 Player of the Week award.

Leading his club to an unbeaten 4-0 start through the opening weekend, Stibners averaged 24.8 points, ten rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game as he impacted all areas of the floor.

The Roller also tallied two triple-doubles across the four games with his best performance coming against the Wheelcats on Saturday morning when he collected 40 points, 15 boards, ten assists and a steal.

He shot 18-25 (72%) from the field in that game while also drilling four three-pointers compared to Perth’s total of one as a team.

That impressive shooting stroke stayed with Stibners throughout Round 1, finishing with a 59% mark from the field overall and 6-15 (40%) from beyond the arc.

He began the weekend with a strong outing against the Thunder on Friday night, scoring eight points in a decisive second term as Wollongong pulled away before Stibners tallied 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.

With another 23 points on Saturday afternoon, he again paced the Rollerhawks in a convincing victory over Red Dust before Wollongong met Queensland on Sunday in a battle of two undefeated teams.

Stibners set the tone with five points, including another three-pointer, and three assists in the opening quarter as Wollongong took an eight-point advantage and they extended that margin at every break to win 87-56.

While only scoring 14 points for the contest, Stibners put together a second triple-double to cap Round in style, adding 12 rebounds, 13 assists, a steal and a block.
