ROUND 5 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Recording his second Player of the Week award for the 2016 season, Shaun Norris of the Be Active Perth Wheelcats is the Round 5 nominee after averaging a triple-double in two victories last weekend.
Fighting through two six-point wins against the RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets in consecutive days, Norris collected a game-high 36 points to go with 15 rebounds and 12 assists on Saturday night while his work at the defensive end was also critical as he nabbed a steal and a block.
Norris had 11 points in the opening term to almost out-score the opposition by himself with the Wheelcats opening up a six-point advantage.
Queensland did not go away though, trimming the margin to two points with just over a minute remaining in the contest.
Norris’ playmaking ability got Perth over the line, finishing with six points and five assists in the fourth term while he hit the team’s final field goal to give them some separation.
The following day, the guard was even more efficient with 32 points on 52% shooting, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.
Another strong opening half saw Perth grab a nine-point lead going into the main break and Norris was again the catalyst with 16 points.
The Spinning Bullets made a similar charge to the first game, bringing the lead back to just five in the third period but another 12 points from Norris squashed any hope of a comeback.
On the back of five wins from their past six games, the Wheelcats have now moved to the top of the ladder, a loss clear of Kilsyth although they have played one extra game.
