Perth Wheelcats Dominate in Round 2

The Be Active Perth Wheelcats continued their dominance of the 2012 National Wheelchair Men’s League with two easy wins over the Adelaide Thunder last weekend in Adelaide.  The Wheelcats led by Rollers Shaun Norris (averaging 26.2ppg this season) and Adam Deans (averaging 15.0  ppg and 8.6 rebounds ppg) defeated the Thunder 91 -36 and 93-26.  Luke Watkins continued his form from round 1 leading the scoring for Adelaide.  Luke is averaging 20.8 ppg and 11.6 rebounds in the 5 games played to date.

 

Adelaide Thunder are on the road against the reigning champions Wollongong Roller Hawks in round 3 whilst The Be Active perth Wheelcats will also travel across the country and take on the Sydney Uni Wheelkings in two games at the Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre.

 

Wollongong Roller Hawks also continued their good form for the year defeating the plucky Dandenong Rangers in their two games in Shellharbour.  In the opening game the Roller Hawks jumped out to a 23 – 8 lead in the 1st quarter and whilst Dandenong were able to get themselves back in the game outscoring the roller Hawks in the final quarter the early lead enabled them to hold on to win 68 – 57.  Brett Stibners had a double double with 26 points and 11 rebounds with Shawn Russell chipping in for 20 whilst Dylan Alcott 15 and Cobi Crispin 12 were the major scorers for the Rangers with Daniel Deltoso grabbing 16 rebounds.

 

In the 2nd game of the weekend the Roller Hawks were too strong and won 78 – 52 over the Rangers.  Shawn Russell finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds whilst Brett Stibners had 27 and was well supported by Luke Pople with 10.  For the Rangers Daniel Deltoso had a good weekend with 13 boards whilst Dylan Alcott with 13 and Cobi Crispin 10 points led the scoring.

 

Sydney Uni Wheelkings split their road trip with the RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets with each team grabbing a win.  In the opening game the Wheelkings led by a big scoring spree from CJ Grogan with 24 points and well supported by veteran Craig Cannane won 57 – 50.  For the Spinning Bullets Jordan Bartley shot at a high clip of 53% to score 24 points and 12 rebounds.  In the game on Sunday Jordan Bartley again led the scoring with 16 points and 10 boards with solid support from Jake Fullwood with 14 to win easily 62 – 44.    For the Wheelkings again Craig  Cannane showed his experience scoring 18 points.

 

The next round is 24/25 March.
