DJ set for Bendigo!

Damian ‘DJ’ Johnson is the newest recruit for Bendigo Bank Braves for the 2016 South East Basketball League (SEABL) season.

An import from America, Johnson played the last two seasons in the SEABL with Mount Gambier Pioneers, where he was crowned Defensive Player of the Year for 2014 and 2015.

Johnson come to Australia after plying his trade in both America and Asia.

Johnson attended Thibodaux High School in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where he was named first team All-State in Louisiana, as a senior.

Johnson was also the All-Bayou Region Player of the Year in 2005, as well as the Conference Defensive Player of the Year three times, during his High School career.

Johnson went on to have a four year career at the University of Minnesota, before being undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft.

After the draft, Johnson joined the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2010 NBA Summer League, before signing with the Oita Heat Devils in the Japanese Basketball League for the 2010-11 Season.

Johnson will add some athleticism and excitement to the Bendigo Bank Braves line-up and his defensive prowess will be valuable to the teams SEABL Title aspirations.

 “I am excited to join the Bendigo Braves and help bring a championship to the city of Bendigo“ stated Johnson.

Bendigo Bank Braves Head Coach Ben Harvey is excited about the new signing.  

“DJ will be a great asset to the braves program. He brings many skills that don't always show on the stat sheet but plays for his team at all times.” Coach Harvey stated.

Coach Ben Harvey will look to the SEABL import recruiting camp in Indianapolis on November 15-17th to recruit his second import.

Johnson will join the Braves officially early in the new year, in readiness for the 2016 SEABL season which kicks-off in April.
