Congratulations to Layla Prince on being selected for the upcoming East Coast Challenge Basketall Tournament.
Layla – affectionately known as Lu to her team mates, is currently in the Venom G16.1 team coached by Cilla Bertoldi and Kellie King.
This week Lu was announced as being selected in the top 22 U16 players to attend the East Coast Challenge (ECC).
The Sydney based ECC tournament is for athletes at U16 and U18 level. In January, eight Victoria Metropolitan teams (two U16 Boys’ and Girls’ teams and two U18 Boys’ & Girls’ teams) play against teams from each of the other states.
The ECC is a fantastic development tool as it takes the players away from the comfort zone they may find themselves in with their regular Friday night team and routine. This creates positive challenges for players as they need to adapt, while away from home, yet still perform at the level expected of them.
Typically ECC is a stepping stone for players into the Victorian State team. Lu’s response to her selection is typically level headed -
“I’m super excited to be selected for ECC. This is a massive step for me, I’ve come a long way since I first walked into the door at Venom wanting to play basketball, now I’m selected in the best 22 players for my age group. I can’t wait to travel interstate and perform my best against the best players in my age group.”
Congratulations Lu from your Venom family and best of luck at ECC.
