"To my dear friends at Warrandyte Basketball Club,
Thank you so much for supporting The Walter And Eliza Hall Institute (aka WEHI ... pronounced We High) through the fantastic initiative of Mother’s Day in Pink at the Warrandyte Big V game. What a brilliant idea!
Many of you will know me from reffing, coaching and if you have a very long memory, playing at Warrandyte Basketball Club. My day job since I was 20 has been as a researcher and for all but two of those years I have worked at WEHI. One of the main diseases we work on at WEHI is Cancer. In the last 30 years we have made amazing progress treating some types of cancer - cancer's that were a death sentence are now curable - but there remains so much more work to be done. Patients with some cancers still have unacceptable outcomes - we all know friends and relatives that have been diagnosed with cancers where the treatments are tough and the outcomes are poor. The money you raised will be used to support a wonderful medical doctor Associate
Professor Clare Scott who also runs a research laboratory at WEHI. Clare and her team are looking at better ways of diagnosing and treating ovarian cancer and rare cancers. Your support will help her make a difference.
If you are interested in her work you can check her website - http://www.wehi.edu.au/people/clare-scott. If you would like to find our more about cancer research or our other research programs at WEHI have a look at http://www.wehi.edu.au/research/diseases. If you would like a tour of our facilities individually or as a group, we hold regular discovery tours http://www.wehi.edu.au/news/discovery-tours. Thanks again for your support!!
