FASANOC VOA Champions At Coca Cola Games
FASANOC's Voices of the Athletes Champions, Drug Free Fiji and Department of Social Welfare combined resources to advocate to more than 350 student athletes at the annual Coca Cola Games.
Six athletes from four different sports advocated to participating athletes and students which started from Monday this week.
The champions included Annette Lockington, Kinisimere Ravai, Laisani Mataele, Matalita Vuakoso, Lavenia Yalovi, Francis Kirikirikula and Junior Valentine.
The champions advocated to athletes and students between the ages of 12 - 20 on topics involving the environment, anti-doping, non-communicable diseases and child abuse.
Annette said it was an experience to advocate to students and athletes especially to younger children.
"I'm relatively new to the programme and this is my first Coca Cola games so trying to explain to younger kids was a challenge but exciting as well," she said.
"The kids were pretty interested in the topics we were advocating on especially those that involved pictures."
Kinisimere said they also visited schools where athletes were camped throughout the week.
"We handed out questionnaires and answered some questions that students had for the topics we were advocating on," she said.
Kinisimere said she was happy with the turnout and the curiosity of the student athletes.
"It is really great when students ask questions because for us it means they are interested and willing to learn."
