Never Stop Learning Says Senijeli
We should never stop learning was the word from Senijeli Marama after FASANOC's Voices of the Athletes champions paid a visit to her village of Nadali in Tailevu.
The FASANOC VOA team of Laisani Mataele, Kinisimere Ravai and Naomi Waqanidrola advocated on Non-Communicable Diseases, Go Green and Olympic Values at the Nadali Village Hall.
Mrs Marama who is 54-years-old said some of the topics discussed was important for them as women in the village to really understand.
"Our women's group has gone for out for some workshops that discusses some of these issues like NCD's and Keeping the environment clean," she said.
"But the FASANOC VOA presenters were really good because they make it feel like they were talking to us personally."
Mrs Marama said she liked the topic of Go Green which focused on the environment and their responsibility towards it.
"We in the village often take this issue for granted because we think that we are not harming the environment but we are and it is our responsibility to ensure that we protect our surroundings for our children and their children," she said.
Mrs Marama said it would be great to have the FASANOC VOA team back to speak to their Women's Fellowship group.
"Women are the backbone of a household and in order to educate anyone in the house it begins with us women first."
32-year-old Temesia Sika Dave said as a youth leader, learning something new and different was great but implementing the message to other youth members often proved a challenge.
"When one of the champions started talking about the Olympic Values and about Friendship, Excellence and Respect, it really opened our eyes and made us want to be better youth members in our village.
"Learning that there are other sports besides rugby and netball was also good for our youth to know," he said.
Temesia said learning about the Olympic Values and other opportunities of representing the country through other sports besides rugby and netball was interesting for the youth of the village.
"We have two former national reps from this village in the form of Seremaia Bai and Emosi Vucago so a lot of our youth especially the boys like to play rugby.
"We also have some of our girls who play soccer for Rewa and Tailevu/Naitasiri so our village is a sporting village.
"But today we learnt that we can learn about different sports during the Olympic Day Run and it could be an opportunity to perhaps don the national colours in a different sport," he said.
The FASANOC VOA team have been visiting schools and communities for the past month in an effort to raise awareness and promote Olympic Values in a build up to the Olympic Day Run this Friday 29th June, 2018.
