Preview OSFA v SFL

We welcome everyone to the spiritual home of football in Southern Tasmania, North Hobart oval this Saturday at 2pm for the inaugural challenge match between the Old Scholars and Southern Football League. This is the only men's football match in the greater Hobart area this Saturday ahead of the AFL at Blundstone Arena Saturday evening. In the tradition of our great game we will see the cream of Southern Tasmania football talent take to the field.

The last representative match the Old Scholars played was on 9 June 2001 against the NTFA losing 5.10 (40) to 10.17 (77) but are fired up to show the southern community what we are about while all squad members had good hit-outs last Saturday and are fit and ready to display their skills. Opposing coaches in Alex Gilmour, Ben Beams and Ian Callinan and SFL's Jon Murray are aware of the unknown with most of the players selected in both squads while our squad boasts the experience of former AFL players Ian Callinan and Alex Gilmour and a host of former TSL players led by Trent Standen, Claude Alcorso and Harry Richmond, while the SFL boasts former TSL players Michael Cassidy, Ben Halton, Liam Azzopardi, Jack Siggins and Cam Hooker. Player match-ups are a mystery at this stage with both teams naming squads but our key forwards Caden Wilson, Alex Gilmour, Trent Standen and Tyler Ford will test SFL defenders led by Jake Murphy, Daniel Coppleman, Braden Barwick and Nick Hobden while SFL forwards Marcus Parker, Cam Hooker, Michael Cassidy and Ben Halton will battle it out against Sam Peacock, Chris Howard, Blake Anderton and Lewis Franks. Both teams are blessed with talented onballers and midfielders and spectators can be assured a great game with plenty of highlight reels. The interest among the southern football community surrounding this clash is amazing with a good attendance predicted.

Two women's matches before the men's match will see North Hobart play Brighton at 10.15am followed by University against Lindisfarne Blues at 12 noon.

Our valued TFUA umpires also are showcasing a Southern Football first on Saturday, with an all-female umpires crew taking the ground for the 12 noon match.
