Bulala, Cruz attain personal best
Guam’s Track and Field athletes attained personal best during their respective events at the X Pacific Games in the Korman Stadium, Port Vila, Vanuatu. Bulala posted a time of 27.34 seconds in the 200-meter race. She finished fifth in her heat of eight runners missing the finals cut by 52/100 seconds. Shania finished ninth out of sixteen runners in the event as the top eight moved on to the finals. “I’m very happy with my time. I’ve been trying to beat it since high school.” Said an enthusiastic Bulala. “Now I can attack the vanilla ice cream.” Referring to the Vanuatu pure vanilla ice cream she’s been craving for at the athlete’s dining hall.
On the field, Amanda Cruz finished in fifth of eight competitors, setting a new personal record in the women’s discus throw at 29.99 meters. A jubilant Cruz was all smiles as she completed the task despite many obstacles that hindered her ability to practice on Guam. “We don’t have access to field facilities on island so it makes it very hard to be competitive in these events. I’m satisfied with the distance I achieved today.” Stated Cruz.
Guam’s final event will be contested at the Korman Stadium as Genina Criss races in the 1500 meter event on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 2:05 p.m.
