Team Guam tops medal tally
Team Guam contested for 62 gold medals and won over two-thirds to lead the medal standings with 42 gold, 27 silver and 12 bronze. The bulk of the medals came from the swimming team with 31 gold medals out of a possible 40. Tennis missed a clean sweep winning six of seven gold medals up for grab while underwater spear fishing took one of two. Team sports won five of seven gold including baseball, men and women volleyball and men and women basketball.
Silver medal tally were won by swimming, underwater spear fishing, tennis, va’a and women’s fast pitch softball. Bronze medals were provided courtesy of swimming, tennis and table tennis.
Closing ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Pohnpei time (3:00 p.m. Guam) at the Pohnpei Track and Field venue.
The host of the 2018 Micronesian Games was also determined during the Council meeting held in Pohnpei of which Yap beat out the CNMI.
