Fencing Competition Software

The FIE has sanctioned the EnGarde package for use in fencing competitions.  We use this in Australia from the National level down.  It is used in preference to the U.S. "Fencing Time" package, as the latter is very customised to the U.S. fencing environment (e.g. U15s are known as Y14s, DE bouts in junior comps are run differently, and there is implied National grading).  The other package available, PointControl, is still in development.

To set up EnGarde, please follow these steps:

  1. Download the software from the FIE site - it can be found here.
  2. When the download has finished, Open the "ZIP" file.
  3. Next, Extract all of the zipped files to a directory called C:\EnGarde (or similar).
  4. When the files have extracted, click on Finish.  You should see a window with a blue Engarde symbol on it.
  5. Do a right-click on the Engarde icon, and select Send To, then Desktop (create shortcut).
  6. Download the English language help file from the FIE site - it can be found here.
  7. When the download has finished, Open the "ZIP" file.
  8. Next, Extract all of the zipped files to a directory called C:\EnGarde\Ressources (note the spelling).
  9. From your desktop, double-click Shortcut to Engarde.
  10. Click on Fichier then Langue - Language then ok when the program reports that it is "Loading a file containing the texts".
  11. Double-click on textes_eng, then click ok when the program reports "Choice of an help file".
  12. Double-click on aides_eng.  The menus should now all be in English (as will most of the help).
  13. You are now ready to use EnGarde.

If you are planning to run a competition with "Tableau B" in it, you should store this special competition template file in your directory called C:\EnGarde\Ressources.

Attached below is the EnGarde training manual, which takes you through the steps on how to run a competition using the EnGarde software.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
