Woodville Warriors 92 | Central Districts Lions 46

After a first quarter scare, the Woodville Warriors picked apart the Central Districts Lions to record a huge 46-point victory at St Clair on Saturday night.

Tavarsha Scott Williams was instrumental in the victory, recording 21 points and 12 rebounds to rescue her side from a slow start and guide them to a much-needed victory. Deanna Troia ably assisted with an accurate display of 18 points, while captain Katherine Perkas registered a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) in a great team effort. For the visitors, Danielle Greaves scored 13 points for the visitors, while Rhianna Stringer managed 9 points and a game-high 8 steals in her side’s poor showing.

With round 12’s 0-22 start fresh in their memories, it was evident that the Lions were looking for a much better opening to proceedings. Consecutive three-pointers from Greaves saw the away side race to a 7-point lead in the first 5 minutes. A handful of great plays from star import Scott Williams prevented the Lions from consolidating their lead, as the hosts closed the margin to just 2 points at quarter time on the back of a Troia maximum. Aimee Herriman (13 points) started to show her potential, converting a skilful perimeter attempt from her own rebound before hitting a triple minutes later to help the Warriors shoot away to a double-digit lead. As their free-scoring run continued, the Centrals had no such luck, accumulating just 6 points for the term to reach half-time facing a 24-point deficit.

A fine move from Perkas around the rim helped the home side continue their dominance in the third term. Despite raw effort on show at times for the Centrals, the structures and strategies implemented from the visitors failed to garner any momentum, with the winless side instead finding themselves down by 39 with a quarter remaining. The match became a procession fast and with the result already etched into the record books, each team rotated their individuals.

The game ended 92-46, a great result for Woodville. The Warriors find themselves at 6-7, just 2 games from the final postseason berth in 7th position. On the other hand, the Lions fall to a disheartening 0-13 but will hold plenty of hope for their first win as they prepare to host the 2-11 Mavericks on Saturday Night.
