ROUND TWENTY: Sturt Sabres v Central District Lions

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

With their finals position solidified, the Sturt Sabres will head into this contest at ease! Central Districts on the other hand despite having a disappointing season, will be playing for pride and to continue to grow their emerging side.

An incredibly slow start for the Lions in Round 19 cost them a winnable game against the too struggling South Adelaide Panthers. Outscored 27-8 and 26-10 in the opening quarters allowed the Panthers to grab a lead the Lions could not recover from. Two-time Player of the Round Jazmen Boone once again lead the Lions after flirting with a 20-20 game by recording 19-points and 18-rebounds. Prolific scorer Kylee Smith lead the contest with 26-points of her own against the Warriors last weekend and against the weaker defence in Centrals, may go back-to-back with this feat.

Despite what most likely will be a Sabres win, Sturt are still jostling for the top position and are currently trailing the league leading Pioneers by 1-point (as are the Eagles). The race for the top position is definitely going down to the wire and isn’t over just yet.

Hang Time Prediction: Sturt Sabres

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Sabres pulled off a surprising victory on Saturday, defeating Woodville 83-77 to put themselves in ninth position on the league ladder. While the offence ran well through Carleton, Fassos, Klaosen, Goodall and Desantis, it was the team’s defence which really stood out. The team clamped down on Woodville’s shooters terrifically, rotating well to help each other and keeping the Warriors to just 77 points on below-average shooting. The Lions, who escaped with a slim victory over South Adelaide last round, will want to perform a bit better defensively against a seemingly more potent Sturt offence. Their offensive game seems to be pretty strong currently, with Riewer and Diing in some solid form. These two have linked up well in recent games and are creating headaches for their opposition on a regular basis. If their team can lift a level on defence, which they could be likely to do after last week, they should have no trouble in coming out on top in this one.
