Flames tame the Panthers Men in a thriller

Norwood were able to hold off a resurging South Adelaide running away victors 93 to 83 on Tuesday afternoon.

A tight contest early, the Flames were able to jump to a 19 point lead in the third quarter before Al Green’s men were able to reduce the margin to just four points with several minutes remaining.

Following a 40-point display the previous week all eyes were on import Jerrell Sanders during in the match.

The former NBA draft prospect failed to solidify his dominance early in the ball game and was even given a prolonged benching during the first quarter.

To his credit Sanders was able to play through the adversity and helped guide Norwood’s 19-point lead in the second half. His only notable concern was his 13.33 per cent accuracy at the free throw line.

South Adelaide’s Eian Davis also provided a reel of highlights for the crowd as he notched his way to 37 points in the match.

It wasn’t enough though for his side as Norwood had too many offensive options for South Adelaide to comprehensibly defend.

The Webber brothers coupled with the likes of Matthew Lycett were able to ensure that the home side were able to maintain their lead.

Norwood controlled the ball game and restricted South Adelaide from mounting a comeback.

The Flames will next week face Woodville away from home whilst the Panthers will play Forestville at home.
