In a battle of 2nd and 3rd, the Eagles host the Mavericks in our 2019 Qualifying Final which is sure to go down to the wire. Splitting their 2019 series at 1-1, both the Mavericks and Eagles are hungry for the opportunity to advance. A more accurate preview of this fixture is their second meeting of the year when the Mavericks had newly crowned Halls Medalist Carmen Tyson-Thomas suit up for their clash.
Tyson-Thomas dropped a game high 36-points and lead her side to a 7-point victory at Wayville. Even with Tyson-Thomas’ offensive dominance, the widespread scoring opportunists that Forestville has, will be enough to overcome the Mavs. Slowing Tyson-Thomas is a key to an Eagle victory, but that is always easier said than done. Averaging 28.8 points per game for her season, the offensive powerhouse is sure to leave it all on the floor as the Mavericks look to move one step closer to raising a banner in the Mount. Defensively, their last outing proved to be in favour of the hosts after they forced 28-Maverick turnovers throughout. Unfortunately for the Eagles, these turnovers only equivalated into 23-points and was not enough to get them over the line. Nonetheless, the Eagles defensive pressure was sure to challenge Eastern and in turn make it a few possession game.
With the stakes high and a potential title hanging in the balance, both sides are on high alert on both ends of the floor and look to capitalise on as many opportunities as possible. This Saturday night, we may just witness a clinic on both ends of the floor by both sides in their own right.
