ROUND EIGHTEEN: West Adelaide Bearcats vs Eastern Mavericks

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

As the season draws to a close and clubs continue to jostle for their final positions heading into the finals, West Adelaide and Eastern fight to finish above their current seeds. After blowing out Woodville last week, the gap between them and Eastern is down 4-points and can be even smaller with a victory over them this weekend. Despite Western’s supreme defensive capabilities, the Mavericks do not shy from a challenge and have scoring machine Carmen Tyson-Thomas on their side. Tyson-Thomas and Brooke Basham combined for 62 after notching 31-apiece against North Adelaide and will look to continue that confidence against a dangerous Bearcat outfit. West Adelaide aren’t only phenomenal defensively, as we know how dangerous they are on the other end of the hardwood. Boasting a wide range of scorers who are more than able to light it up, the Mavericks may have quite a fight on their hands down at the Port.

Hang Time prediction: West Adelaide Bearcats

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Bearcats got an important win in Round 17, defeating the Lions 86-75. The team had 30 assists in a strong offensive performance, which saw Jefferson leading the way on 27 points and 11 boards. West Adelaide were strong defensively as well and will need to be again when they take on the Mavericks. Eastern lost to the Rockets, but they were still fairly impressive. Dowdell, Starling and McVeigh is a tough three-way to stop and the Mavericks kept up with them through Morris, Cherry, McGee and Stock. If Morris and Cherry can combine like they did against the Rockets this week, the Bearcats will find their team hard to beat. If not, the game may be neck-and-neck. Expect the Mavericks to bounce back from a tough loss in style though.
