ROUND FIFTEEN: Mount Gambier Pioneers v Central District Lions

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

Fourteen rounds has seen fourteen losses for the ladies hailing from Gawler and this week looks to be no different as they face the Mount Gambier Pioneers. The two sides clashed a mere few weeks ago with the Pioneers taking the win on the road by a dominant 18-points. Jazmen Boone led the Lions with 19 and Perez-Crespo added 13 of her own, but it was not enough. The Pioneers offensive depth proved too much for the hosting Lions with Winter and Roberts posting 23 each while Frost had a quiet one by her standards. We could be in for much of the same heading into this week, as stepping up at the Ice House is always a difficult task.

Hang Time Prediction: Mt Gambier Pioneers

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Pioneers are seemingly the in-form team of the competition at the moment, dismantling most teams they come up against. This was no different against the Lions away from home in Round 14, where they secured a 91-122 win through elite team offence and suffocating defence. This style of play mixed with the talent of the Daly brothers and Kentrell Barkley makes Mt Gambier one of the hardest teams to deal with in the league. The Lions will get a shot at revenge this week though. However, they will need to be at their very best if they want to come away from Mt Gambier with an upset victory. While Riewer and Diing can both be potent offensively, questions still arise over the team’s ability to defend for a full four quarters and if the bench can produce enough to get them a win. Because of this, it seems this one will be a straightforward Pioneers victory.
