ROUND NINE: Forestville Eagles v Mount Gambier Pioneers

WOMEN by Adam Jones

The Pioneers play back to back games on the weekend with the first game a battle against the (currently) second place Eagles. The Eagles lit up the Flames in the previous round, as they bombarded them with a volley of threes. Gabriella Vidmar was one of the main contributors as she scored 20 points with six 3s. The Pioneers look to their star duo Emily Winter and Amanda Frost, and both put on amazing performances in their win over the Rockets in the Ice House.

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

This could very well be the game of the round, with both teams being extremely dangerous on both sides of the court. The Eagles have been, for the most part this season, blowing teams out of the water with huge scores and suffocating defence. Offensive weapons like Deng, Harris, Teys to go along with De Wit and Mays also makes for a deadly star-studded starting 5 which is extremely hard to stop. One of the teams with a team as stacked as Forestville’s though is the Pioneers. The newest team in the competition boasts players like the Daly brothers, Burdon, Barkley, Dickson and Rathjen. They have been extremely potent on offence, accumulating a high number of assists for high-percentage looks, and they are also extremely talented on the defensive end, able to switch successfully and quell their opposition. As far as close matchups go this is just about as close as it gets. However, a Pioneers side with a gelled Daly Brothers may be too much for the Eagles to stop.
