It was a do-or-die game for Forestville, and the fairy-tale wasn’t to be. CJ Reed and the Sturt Sabres put their motor into top gear and cruised past the Eagles by 15 points at Blockbuster Sunday.
Reed was the director, scoring and coasting through traffic at will. He finished with the game-high 28 points and eight rebounds as his side made light work of the Eagles.
Though the Eagles made a strong start to the match with Jake Rios helping Forestville notch up the first eight points of the game. But it was Sturt who then made a real impact, going on a 17-4 run in the first quarter to stamp their mark on the game.
Reed knocked in 16 first half points for Sturt as they worked their way to a five point lead at half time.
The scoring runs didn’t stop there. Sturt opened the second half with a 13-3 run, painting a picture for what was to come.
The Sabres’ intense defensive pressure and smooth offensive plays was delight to watch, outscoring the Eagles by eight points in the third quarter, and closing out the match with ease.
Dylan Rawson (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Tim Klaosen (16 points, 13 rebounds) were also influential for Sturt, as they produced two magnificent double-doubles. Kyle Howe-Tipene top scored for Forestville, contributing 18 points for the match.
Sturt’s finals hopes are now looking better than ever, needing a win next week to guarantee their spot. While for Forestville, their chances of sneaking into the post season are almost lost. With one round to go, their finals fate will be decided through other team’s results.
