2006 Hari Raj Naicker - Football (soccer)

Hari Raj Naicker

Hari Raj Naicker

"has devoted his entire life to the development and organisation of sporting activities."

These words best describe Hari Raj Naicker's ongoing contribution and service to the sport of Football in Fiji.

Hari Raj Naicker attained his FIFA badge as an International Referee in 1975 and served as a FIFA Referee for a record 17 years until 1991 when he had to retire at the mandatory age of 55.  As a FIFA Referee Hari Raj Naicker was called upon to officiate in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and the Pacific Island Nations.   He served as the Fiji Football Referees' National Secretary from 1975 - 2002, as National Secretary of the Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association from 1980 - 1991 and was Chairman of the Fiji Football Association's Referees Commission from 1997 - 2005.  As National Secretary of the Fiji Football Referees, he was instrumental in recruiting nearly all the referees who are active today.  He has raised funds for the Referees' body and his services and guidance has been invaluable.

Hari Raj Naicker's passion for refereeing saw him qualify as a Referee Instructor from the Oceania Football Confederation in 1986 and he raised the bar in 2000 when he became a FIFA Referee Instructor.  Hari Raj Naicker is one of only 12 FIFA Referee Instructors and the first from Fiji.

During his career, Hari Raj Naicker has been honoured with many awards for both services to sport and to the community.  In 1993 he was named Administrator of the Year by the Fiji Football Association.  The Government of Fiji presented him with a 25th Anniversary Independence Medal in 1995 and recognized him again in 1998 by conferring him a Medal of Order of Fiji.  In 1999 Hari Raj Naicker was made a Justice of the Peace and in 2005 a Commissioner for Oaths. In 2001 FASANOC presented him with an IOC Diploma on the occasion of the International Year for Volunteers.  Hari Raj Naicker was also a long serving member of the St John Ambulance and awarded the Officer of St John in 2003.

In recognition of his distinguished service to sport in Fiji and in particular to the sport of Football, nationally, regionally and internationally, FASANOC is proud to confer the FIJI OLYMPIC ORDER to Mr Hari Raj Naicker.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
