The Sherbrooke Suns are pleased to announce the acquisition of swingman, Paul Nikoloff-King who crosses from Division 1 outfit Sunbury Jets.

Nikoloff-King, 23, made an instant impact in his maiden BIG V season in 2017 and despite being a late starter to representative basketball has a bright future and lofty goals personally.

Prior to graduating from the Waverley junior program, Nikoloff-King tasted the American youth basketball system with several tours to Florida and Texas and gained a position to M.A.C.K Prep, a national post graduate high school in North Carolina, where he stayed between November 2015 until March 2016.

Upon returning to Australia he spent the 2016 season refining his game, ultimately landing with Sunbury for season 2017 eager to show his ability and get a foot in the door of the BIG V community. Testament to his work ethic was on opening night of season 2017, where he filled the box score with 23pts, including 6 three-point field goals at 54% shooting from the field.

Solid contributions continued in the first half of the season until a last-minute invitation presented itself to tour Phoenix and Las Vegas, with seasoned professionals for Eurobasket Summer League which he jumped at and ultimately cut his debut BIG V season short but not before posting impressive numbers of 9.75ppg in 17 mins per game. This included 7 of his 12 games resulting in double figure points all while shooting at an efficient 45.24% from 2pt range and 46% from deep.

Looking for increased opportunity in 2018, Nikoloff-King did research into where he felt he could get a fresh start with a clean slate and the Sherbrooke culture clicked with him after coming down for a session.

“Everyone is here for the same reason, so it’s nice to play without any ego’s where everyone is on a level playing field.”

“I want to impact the game on both ends and use my experiences from both Sunbury and the US to push us up the standings, but also show the Juniors at the club that opportunity comes to those who put in the time.”

Speaking on his new recruit Suns Head Coach, Ryan Rogers is excited by what his new recruit brings to the squad.

“Paul’s a real hidden gem with unlocked potential and has plenty of upside to his game - we’ll be endeavouring to extract that from him.”

“He has come in with a point to prove and with the roster turnover there will be a period of adjustment but he is an elite shooter so that can’t be taught.”

“We know that he will complement our group very well and we look forward to him assisting us with our playoff ambitions in 2018.”
