Umpires play an important role in AFL

Umpiring is a fantastic way to get involved with AFL, whilst keeping fit and earning money.

With Australian Football in Queensland growing at rapid rates, there are plenty of opportunities around the state for people to get involved with sport and earn money at the same time.

What’s involved?
You will be appointed to matches within your local competition. Games are held at various times throughout the weekend, so there are always plenty of opportunities to umpire

You will be provided with training and one on one coaching - so you won't be dropped into the deep end.

Get Paid to Get Fit
Umpiring is a great way to improve your’ fitness. Umpiring rates start in QLD generally start at $25 for a 48 minute U/12s game, and can reach $130 for a Senior Field Umpire. And when you think that you can be paid up to $90,000 a year as an AFL Umpire, then it is a lot better than paying for a gym membership!

Develop your Personal Skills
Umpiring can build your confidence, help you make important decisions under pressure, and improve your interpersonal and communication skills. You will not get better training in all these areas than by being an Umpire.

Be the Best
Are you fit, dedicated, motivated and hard-working? If you want to Umpire some amazing football, then there are pathways in place to help you get to the top. Umpiring can take you around Queensland and Australia, umpiring in Regional, State and National Championships, and perhaps all the way to the AFL.

Get Involved
Just looking to get involved with AFL, without becoming an elite umpire? No problems! There are plenty opportunities throughout Queensland for those umpires who would just like to have a run around on the weekend, earn some extra money and be involved with Australia’s Game. Umpiring works around your work and life commitments.

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
