AFL Mackay | Men's Senior Rep. Squad 2017

AFL Mackay today announced its senior men’s representative training squad in preparation to play AFL Capricornia at Rockhampton on Saturday July 1st.

The squad boasts players from all the clubs, with players from the two ladder leading club’s – Whitsunday Sea Eagles and Mackay City Hawks, dominating the list.

Bakers Creek Senior Coach, Dale Eames, will lead the team in a non-playing capacity. His focus will be on developing a squad and implementing a game plan that he believes that can take it right up to the AFL Capricornia team.

AFL Queensland Competition & Club Development Manager – Mackay, Paul Scullie, said the squad is based purely and simply on getting the best players possible.

“A lot of emphasis with selection went into the performance of the players during the recent City v Country match on ANZAC Day,” Scullie said.

“On top of that, club performances over the first 5 rounds of the season have been taken into consideration and we believe we have selected the most inform players in the competition”

“Although the initial squad has been selected, opportunities for further additions may be included, based on form and availability,” Scullie added.

The match will also pay an integral role in providing players in both regions with the opportunity to show off their talents to selectors for the upcoming North Queensland vs South Queensland clash in Cairns on July 22. The North Queensland team will feature players form AFL Townsville, AFL Cairns, AFL Mackay and AFL Capricornia. A member of the NQ coaching staff will be in attendance at the match as part of the talent ID process.

The squad will have their first training session at Harrup Park on Sunday 21st May, with a final team list announced in late June.

The day will also feature a women’s representative match, with a coach and squad to be announced in the coming days.
