EAGLES FIND THEIR X-FACTOR IN DIRKX

Our Big V State Championship Men have begun piecing together their roster for season 2017, beginning with the versatile and athletic Jason Dirkx. Dirkx comes to the Eagles after 214 Big V games at the Whittlesea Pacers and has been known around the league as a X-factor that can turn the tide of games in many different ways.

Dirkx is a capable scorer, alert rebounder and lockdown defender on and off the ball, with career averages to date of 17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.5 blocks per game in Big V. In the Eagles lineup, he will be the proverbial ‘glue guy’ that finds a way to impact games in a ‘no fuss’ manner, and is always team-first in his approach.

‘Prior to missing season 2016 with a knee injury, Jason was a quality player in the State Championship Men competition - being an All Star 5 nominee in 2014’, Head Coach Ross Moll states.

‘Jason provides an all-round game with the ability to score in multiple ways and his length is a great asset at the defensive end. He also provides experienced leadership having captained Whittlesea for several seasons during his time there.’

‘Having completed the required rehab, we are blessed with the timing of Jason’s recovery - which allows us to go through the pre season and build up the volume of Jason's work so that he is raring to go in the new year.’

Jason has been in training and been spending hours in the gym at Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre to get back into game shape and regain strength.

‘Firstly, it’s just great to be back into Basketball after a year off, but I’m really pleased to join Diamond Valley and get to know and play with new teammates’, Dirkx states.

‘I’m thankful Ross Moll thought of me when putting together his Eagles team – we work together well and having played for him for a number of years I feel really comfortable that he knows my capabilities and knows me as a person.’

‘I had 15 years with Whittlesea in juniors and Big V, and I thank them for everything during that time, but I believe the time was right for a fresh start and beginning the next chapter of my Basketball career. I really think our team at the Eagles can push for finals, and hopefully a deep finals run.’

DVBA CEO Ross Wignell weighed in on the addition of Jason Dirkx to our State Championship Men’s team, ‘We are very pleased to add Jason to the program. He is a very good person with extensive experience in the league, which will be an asset to the culture we are building around our Senior Championship Men’s program.’

‘With his length and versatility, he can play and defend multiple positions and has demonstrated an ability to take and make high percentage shots over a number of seasons in Big V.’
