DVBA CEO ROSS WIGNELL ‘SHARES THE GAME’ AT CLINIC

When you share the ball in a Basketball match, you’re sharing the game. When you share knowledge, as a coach, with other coaches – you’re also sharing the game and working to grow the game together. The sport of Basketball, at it’s core, is the ultimate cooperation sport on every level. This past Sunday, our DVBA CEO Ross Wignell – who presided over a decade for Basketball Victoria’s elite player pathways and coach education programs, shared his knowledge in our DVBA ‘Introduction to Coaching 2016’ clinic - free of charge to not only our DVBA members, but the local community at large.

The turnout was amazing, with over 60 coaches in attendance – all looking to grow their knowledge to be able to give more back to their players. Our Diamond Valley Eagles U12 1 Girls team stuck around after their morning practice to be Ross’s demonstrators on the day.

One of the coaches in attendance was Natalie Barker-Dawson, President of the Apollo Rockets Domestic Basketball Club and Assistant Coach of the Eagles U12/4 Boys who commented that ‘the clinic was very informative. We had a number of young Apollo coaches who attended and said that the clinic would not only help them in coaching their junior teams – but it would help them become better players themselves. They never understood why they learnt certain things, or how to teach clearer and better, and Ross gave valuable context to those things on Sunday.’

DVBA CEO and Clinic Presenter, Ross Wignell added ‘It was great to have the opportunity to pass on some knowledge to coaches that are invested in their education and development. The significant number of coaches that were in attendance will take away key teaching points and details that they will now be aware of when coaching, and they can share this with their players and clubs to help the quality of Basketball continue to grow in our area’.

The DVD of the clinic will be available for purchase shortly. Keep an eye on DV Basketball social media streams and our website for more information !

If you attended Sunday’s clinic and want to continue your coach education, we have 5 spots remaining for our DVBA Coaches Preparation Course – a 4 week series of presentations and knowledge sharing, which begins this week. More information can be found at this link : http://bit.ly/1RlLsVm
