Senior Championship Weekly Wrap
The VYCW came away with 2 wins, while our SEABL teams and VYCM suffered from some 4th quarter fade outs.
VYCW
Eagles 71 def. Altona Gators 59
The Eagles put on a defensive display Saturday night, keeping the Broncos to just 24% from the field. 9 out of 11 Eagles hit the scoreboard, once again showing the depth of the group. 18 assists for the games just proves how well the group moves the basketball. Sharna Ayres led the team in her return with 21 points in just over 20 minutes.
Eagles 68 def. Nunawading Spectres 65
The VYCW backed up Sunday with a tight win over the Spectres after being all tied up at 3 quarter time. Nat Davies put the team up by 8 with just over 2 minutes left and the Eagles were able to hold on late with some big defensive stands. Sharna Ayres had another big game, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
VYCM
Eagles 60 def. by Blackburn Vikings 77
The VYCM were in the game until a 4th quarter fade out against the Vikings. 4 Eagles were able to get into double figures in scoring, led by Ben Barlow’s 18 points to go with 5 steals! Diamond Valley welcomed back Jack McAughtry who played his first game this season after an injury in preseason.
Eagles 79 def. by Keilor 94
The VYCM had to back up Sunday against a Keilor that had been resting the night previous and on a roll from the week before. A tough proposition for the team, the Eagles rallied in the 2nd quarter to take a 2 point lead into half time. Unfortunately, 26 points by Dylan Dunstan was not enough as the Thunder ran out winners. Giving up 33 points was the Eagles’ undoing in this one.
SEABL Women
Eagles 50 def. by Dandenong Rangers 68
The SEABL Women had a disappointing finish, only scoring 7 points in the 4th quarter, coming up short against the Dandenong Rangers. The Eagles had 27 Turnovers and shot just 33% from the field, and will be kicking themselves over the missed opportunity. Diamond Valley dominated the boards, but the Rangers’ balanced scoring attack came away on top, especially in the last term.
SEABL Men
Eagles 70 def. by Dandenong Rangers 83
A 34 to 19 3rd quarter was the Eagles’ undoing Sunday evening, eventually going down to the Rangers by 13. Going into the half leading by 8, Diamond Valley was rolling, even without import, Daniel Camps. Youth League players, Dylan Dunstan and Ben Barlow were able to get a taste of the league with the team down in numbers. Mike Best and Darcy Harding led the team with 21 points apiece.
