Dyson King-Hawea signs with the SEABL Eagles

The Diamond Valley Basketball Association is pleased to announce Dyson King-Hawea as the newest signing for the SEABL Men’s team for season 2018.

Dyson started his senior career at the age of 21 playing in his home country of New Zealand with the Taranaki Mountain Airs in the NZBL. Dyson averaged 8 points per game, 6.21 rebounds per game and 2.36 assists per game.

King-Hawea first played in the SEABL competition in 2015, when he decided to make the move to Australia and play for the Ballarat Miners. King-Hawea’s second season with the Miners saw him become a solid contributor to the team with his raw athleticism being a sight to see.

Dyson has just finished the 2017 SEABL season with the Nunawading Spectres, and while the Spectres just fell short of making the Championship game, Dyson enjoyed his time saying “I had a lot of fun last season with Nunawading playing under David Biwer who is an awesome coach and an awesome guy off the court. The boys in the team were very welcoming towards me and I will miss them, but in saying that I can’t wait to play against them as they are a championship quality team and will be a challenge playing against mates.”

As a reward for his consistent hard work, Dyson was selected for the New Zealand National team that participated in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon.

“The Tall Blacks experience was one to be remembered forever. Playing at an international level was challenging but rewarding, in the space of 4 weeks I gained knowledge of the game from the coaches and fellow teammates that I can now take with me where ever I go.”

Head Coach of the SEABL men Grant Wallace is excited about the signing.

“I coached Dyson at the 2017 NBL Combine and was amazed that he did not receive any interest from that camp.  He is an amazing athlete, but a smarter basketballer who can play the 3, 4 or 5 role, but can defend any position on the floor.  His recent international experience has him at the peak of his basketball career and I am sure the Diamond Valley supporters will enjoy his style of play.” Wallace said.

Dyson is eager to show his full potential and to contribute immediately in the 2018 season.

“What will I be bringing to the team will be my toughness on both the offensive and defensive end, as I particularly pride myself on the defensive end. My athleticism enables me to rebound, score and create for others.”

Be sure to come and support Dyson and the rest of the SEABL Eagles in April when the season kicks off.
