SEABL WOMENS COACHES ANNOUNCED

SEABL COACHES ANNOUNCED

Following the recent announcement of Zoe Carr as the head coach of the women’s SEABL team, the DVBA is pleased to announce the support staff for season 2018.

Rob Coulter joins the bench as an assistant coach bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. Rob has been a staple of the Diamond Valley Basketball Association having coached within the junior domestic competition for Greenhills Beavers, Watsonia Warriors, St Thomas Hawks and Diamond Creek Creekers, as well as the Junior Eagles boys program for nearly 2 decades.

“It is really exciting to be a part of the first women’s SEABL team at Diamond Valley.” Coulter said. “It provides a great pathway for junior athletes to aspire to. Having been at Diamond Valley for nearly 20 years, it makes me proud to be a part of this program.”

Another stalwart of the area joins the team as an assistant coach in Sam Thornton. Sam returns home to us from the Bulleen Basketball Club and is also the current U16 Victoria Metro women’s head coach. As a player, Sam was a part of the Opals that competed at 2 World Championships in 1990 and 1994 and played 230 WNBL games.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work again with Zoe, Rob and Jacqui, and looking forward to being part of this exciting new SEABL team.” Thornton said. “It is a great challenge for us all, to not only implement a successful on court package in the short term, but to also ensure that the culture and values of the Diamond Valley Basketball Club are upheld.  For me, it is also a chance to return to the basketball club where I first learnt to play this great game, and to repay my gratitude!  Go Eagles!”

Jacqui O’Neill completes the staff taking the Development Coach position. Well and truly a part of the furniture here at Diamond Valley, Jacquie has taken the U14 Diamond Valley Eagles girls to the last 3 Australian National Club Championships and is also an assistant coach to the U16 Victoria Metro women’s team. Jacqui is excited to gain valuable experience to transfer to our junior Eagles girls.

“I am excited to be involved with the senior program at Diamond Valley. I grew up playing at the club and I loved starting my coaching career here. I am thrilled at the opportunity to progress my coaching as well as help promote a pathway for our Junior athletes”

“I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing staff. It is rare to be able to have this amount of knowledge and support on the one bench and I couldn’t ask for better representatives of the DVBA and the northern region, to help lead us in our inaugural season.” Head Coach Zoe Carr said. “We are all very excited to get started.”

SEABL Women’s trials will be held on:

Sunday 29th October 2pm-4pm at Diamond Valley Sport and Fitness Centre
