Big V Wrap - Round 14

Round 14’s results did not turn out so well for our senior teams this week, however our VYCW stormed home to secure a great win.

Our SCW had the week off and will be looking to get a win on the road against McKinnon. It will not be an easy task, but if they can stop the supply from the triple threat of Ioannidis, Pullins and Thomas it will help them get the result they are looking for.

Our SCM had another tough loss this week, losing to Casey 84 -79. Our men played a great a second half to come home strong but it wasn’t enough thanks to Casey’s great second quarter. Ray Sanders had a big night with 29 points and 7 rebounds, Greg Page gave a spark off the bench with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Our Men’s team will be heading on the road looking to get a win at Hawthorn, who have been struggling as of late with losing their last four games.

Our VYCM had to face the undefeated Bullen Boomers on Saturday losing, 62 – 42. Bullen showed why they are the team to beat this season with a strong first quarter, 23 – 9. To our boys credit after adjusting to the level of Bulleen they competed every single quarter to only lose the last 3 quarters by a combined 6 points. With having some of the boys being elevated to help the Senior Championship team, Coach Cotter had the chance to give some well needed experience to some of the younger core of players in his squad. Mark Girolami gave a contribution in several areas with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Our Youth Men will be looking to get two wins on the weekend to help accelerate them towards the pointy end of the season.

Our VYCW had another thrilling weekend, starting with a great win Saturday night against Waverley Falcons, 80 – 74. It was a great team effort this week as shown by the shared scoring across the team, with 3 players scoring 15+ points. On Sunday the girls travelled to Bulleen and just fell short in a closely fought game, 55 – 54. Brodie Theodore had a big night at both ends of the floor with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Our VYCW are at home this week looking to get a win against the Sabres on Sunday.
