Big V Wrap - Round 11
It was a tough week for our senior teams this week, but our SCW did get a big win on the road this weekend.
Our SCW had a great start to their weekend with a win in Warrandyte, 76 – 56. It was a great performance with the girls winning all 4 quarters. Kasey Burton was in great form with 18 points and 7 rebounds, Mikayla Pirini also had a solid night with 13 points and 6 assists. The following day our SCW struggled against Southern Peninsula losing 77 – 69. The team really missed the dominance of Kate Oliver who did not play on Sunday. Amelia Smith was excellent with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Kasey Burton continued her strong weekend with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Our SCM lost a nail biter on Saturday night at McKinnon, 90-89. Our men had a great start leading by 15 points going into half time. The home team McKinnon came out strong in the 3rd quarter, to cut the deficit to 2 points going into the last quarter. The game was decided in the last 10 seconds when Benji Tamir made a 2 point shot and got fouled to give the home team the victory. Brandon Conley had a great game with 24 points and 9 rebounds, while Matt Reynolds continued his recent hot form with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
Our VYCW had a tough game on Sunday, losing to the unstoppable force Knox Raiders 94 – 59. Knox Raiders showed why they are a contender for the season, with our girls giving everything they could, to challenge this great team. Mikayla Peterson was superb coming off the bench and finishing with a double-double, 16 points and 11 rebounds. Natalie Davies also put up a solid effort scoring 10 points.
Our VYCM struggled on Saturday night against a hungry Sandringham Sabres team losing, 86 – 64. Having 5 of their listed players unavailable made it difficult to get the win. The boys had difficulties protecting the ball, with 22 turnovers compared to 15 for the opposition. Jack McAughtry and Dylan Dunstan lead the young group, with 13 points and 12 points respectively.
This week there are no games scheduled for our senior teams. We will inform you of their schedules early next week. GO EAGLES!
