VYCW & VYCM preaseaon wraps!

Youth Eagles faced with physical tests as the season nears!

The VYCW had a tough, physical encounter against the Blackburn Vikings Division 2 Women's side on the weekend. The game went down to the wire, with Blackburn coming out on top by two points 46-44. The physical nature of the game was a great learning experience for the team, who were missing several senior players, which also allowed some of the Junior Eagles players to step up and play more productive minutes on the floor. Mikayla Peterson had a standout game at both ends of the court, and was well supported by Meg Crupi and Sharna Ayres at the offensive end, and Angela Morris and Keeley Evans at the defensive end of the floor.

The next game for the VYCW will see them take on the U18 Victoria Metro State Team at 2:45pm on Sunday February 25th at the DVSFC.

On Sunday the VYCM played the Bulleen Division 1 Men’s team. Bulleen’s size played a more physical brand of basketball than the team has faced so far this preseason. The boys struggled to find a rhythm in the first half, but showed great effort and discipline in the second. After getting back to the team rules and they gave themselves a fighting chance in the 4th quarter. The close loss taught the team a lot about who they are now and who they want and need to be to have a successful 2018 season.

Their next game is 12.40pm on Sunday Feb 25th at DVSFC, against the Australian Goannas. A gold coin donation on entry will go towards funding for the Goannas.
