Attention Port Curtis Based AFL Players,
Due to high demand, we have organised for Summer development training sessions in Gladstone at Chanel College on a Monday afternoon from 5:30 until around 6:45 or last light. Please read the following letter for all the information you will need to be able to participate in the program. Please note all participants will be able to still able to attend the Rockhampton development sessions as well each week for the main football session.
The Gold Coast SUNS Talent Academy together with AFL Capricornia invite boys and girls born 2000-2006 to register for the 2017 - 2018 Capricornia SUNS Summer Development Program. The Capricornia SUNS Summer Development training will give you the best opportunity to progress into the Sun’s Talent Academy in the future via the AFL Queensland player pathway representative games in the 2018 season.
The SUNS Academy will be working closely with the regions summer development program and the under 14 and 16 representative programs. The entire program will be overseen by the Regional Suns Development Coaches Michael Rose, Brad Matheson & Dale Sparkman. It is imperative that your son / daughter engages in this key program which will aid their development as well as provide the opportunity to be identified by the talent academy in the future.
It will be a requirement for players already selected in the Suns Talent Academy to attend these summer development sessions as well as other planned academy sessions.
Academy selection for U14 players during 2018 will be made In January of the same year. It Is highly recommended that if you are in the Under 14 age group and are hoping to gain entry to the academy, you should attend summer development training for identification.
Players participating in the SUNS Development training should also be attending the Summer Development Camp on the 24th, 25th and 26th of November for testing and video analysis of their skills. Details for the camp can be found on the AFL Capricornia Website
Some key performance areas that the summer program aims to improve for each player are:
- Kicking Ability
- Contested play (ability to win your own ball)
- Athletic Attributes (Fitness)
- Football Character – Attitude and Professionalism
All players will finish the 11 week program with a personalized player report outlining all testing results conducted during the program. Players will also have their kicking technique filmed and be given feedback on technical aspects of their kicking.
Players that wish to be a part of this summer’s SUNS development training will need to RSVP: Scan and return the attached registration form / indemnity form to indicate if they will be able to attend this year’s development training (Preferably before the first session). This can be done by email to scott.smithwick@afl.com.au . Your son/daughter may register after this date but it will affect the ordering of singlets.
