U16 Women Division 2 take on the Country Tournament

Over the June long weekend, the CHBA U16 Women Division 2 team travelled to Gosford to take part in the 35th Basketball NSW Country Junior Basketball Tournament.

The girls found themselves in a Pool A alongside Moss Vale, Gosford and Narrandera. They found themselves up against Gosford first up. The girls were outclassed in this game, coming away with a 22-44 loss. They regrouped and to take on Narrandera later that day. The girls improved massively to come away with a narrow 23-30 loss. The last game in the pool games proved to be their crowning game, defeating the Moss Vale team, which has several State players, 21-20.

With Narrandera winning all their games, they finished first. This left Moss Vale, Gosford and our girls all equal second. However, on count back, the girls were relegated to 4th place. This meant in the cross over's they were scheduled to play Bathurst, who finished first in pool B.

Our girls came out firing on all cylinders keeping Bathurst to 8-8 at half time. The second half was a real battle, but with injuries to several key players, our girls ended the game going down 13-21. Bathurst later went on to win the division in the final over Narrandera.

The girls had a fantastic weekend and should be commended for their efforts and the wonderful way they represented our association. Well done girls!

A special mention needs to go to Jack Stephens who travelled with the team as their referee. Jack was given the U16 Women Division Final for his efforts over the weekend. Well done Jack!
