Match previews

Seniors:                               Lindisfarne v New Norfolk

Who will forget the 2012 decider, Lindisfarne red hot favourites jumped away to handy early 6-7 goal lead only for the Eagles to slowly peg the deficit back to win the title?

What a grand final match up we have today , the two stand out teams all year will both go into the game expecting to win at their best, the brand they play is very exciting but built on pressure.

The Eagles unbeaten in the roster series were upset by the Blues at Boyer in the second semi-final.

After seeing both sides up close this finals series, they can both slingshot the ball from half back at speed, ruckman that feed fantastic midfielders and a potent forward line that can kick a big score, They both have very strong squads of 25 so for me it will come down to the top 6 who has the greater impact in big moments that will win the ultimate prize.

Both teams have a stack of quality players in their teams. Lindisfarne led by Dual William Leitch Medallist Troy Cunliffe, Michael Cassidy, Matt Smith, Joey Miller, Tom Roberts, Ryan Edmondson, the Clark boys and goal sneak Van Kraanen, just to mention a few up against the experienced Eagles; Caden Wilson, Mark Horne, Nathan Ross, Tyron Rainbird, Jacob Wigg, Nic Clayton, Rohan Heron, Marcus Parker, the giant Jason Laycock, the evergreen 300 gamer dual William Leitch Medallist Roger Belcher.

New Norfolk by 8 points on the back of Laycock giving his mid’s first use to a very dangerous forward line in Parker, Gardam, Ross, Wilson and Clayton.

SFL WOMEN’S GRAND FINAL 2017           South East Suns v Lindisfarne Blues

Today’s SFL Women’s Grand Final between South East Sun’s and Lindisfarne Blues promises to be entertaining and a hard fought game.

During the roster season it was a tight battle between the two clubs with one win each and a draw.

With the Sun’s winning the Second Semi Final by only 4 points from a fast finishing Lindisfarne.

Thus leading to today’s Grand Final which will be Fast, Skillful and Physical.

An enjoyment to all to watch.

Key Match Ups

Nicole Mathews (Sun’s) against Katie Cole (Blues)

Hannah Scott and Bronte Scott (Sun’s) against Anita Silva and Amanda Silva (Blues)

Macklyn Sutcliffee (Sun’s) against Alison Plath (Blues)

Who will win?

Both Team’s play a similar style of Football. And when let run both can destroy the opposition.

I guess the side that can settle first will gain the upper hand, making it hard for the other team to regain ground.

This match will go down to the wire. But I feel the the more experienced Lindisfarne Blues will be able to reverse the Second Semi Final result and cause a upset and claim the premiership for 2017.

Reserves:            New Norfolk v Lindisfarne

Lindisfarne has had to do the hard yards during the finals playing week in week out. Players of prominence likely to be Todd Willing, Shawn Clark, Nick Braslin, Tim Bracken, Bayley Westbury, Ben Dean and any player that misses out on senior selection.

The Boys from the Valley are undefeated and therefore go into this match as red hot favourites, a huge turnaround from last season’s wooden spoon. The experience of Dual George Watt Medallist Adam Whitford, Josh Kelly, Bonnitcha, Styles and depth of other team mates should ensure a flag for the Eagles. therefore the fresher Eagles to prevail.

Colts:                    Hobart v Southern Storm

The good feel team of the year, Hobart from winless in 2016 to flag favourite in 2017 can the Tigers stretch the season unbeaten record for glory. SFL Coach Year Will Perry has done a remarkable job transforming this team. Players to watch will be Lipscombe Medallist Lachie Plummer, Isaac Hovington; Harry Fish just to mention a few. The Storm boys have had an up and down season through the roster period, but have been most competitive at seasons end. Key players to watch out for are Coad, Coulson, Brereton, Reardon, and Polley. The Storm boys snuck over the line with few seconds to spare last week after rushed behind after scores being level for a period time with New Norfolk. This could be the start of a cracker jack day of football. Tip: Hobart by less than a goal.
