2019 WBC Tier 2, North Canterbury Spirit Coach Announcement

North Canterbury Basketball Association are please to announce Wade Parata as the North Canterbury Spirit Head Coach for 2019. 

Parata lead the NC Spirit for their inaugural season in the 2018 WBC Tier 2 competition, and is back again to help the side go back to back after winning the championship in 2018. 

Since moving to the sidelines for North Canterbury in 2017 Parata has enjoyed tremendous team success with the Women's Premier team, bringing the Premier title over the Waimakariri in 2017. As a player, Parata had stints on Junior National Teams, Canterbury Rams squads, Australian QBL experience & boasts plenty of silverware from local Christchurch competitions. A student of the famed Aranui Academy, Parata credits his basketball pathway to the support he received growing up on the Eastern Suburbs & approaches coaching with the same family based values. 

The 2019 WBC will see the NC Spirit compete in in tier 2 along with 7 other teams across New Zealand. The tier 2 teams are the Capital Swish, Harbour Zephyr, Northland Phoenix, Rotorua Lady Geysers, South Canterbury, Waitako Country Cannons and Wellington. 

The NC Spirit will play 7 total games across the regular season, and you have the chance to catch them in action in Christchurch during the 1st WBC Tournament duing the 10th, 11th and 12th of May at Cowles Stadium. The Spirit will then head up to Wellington to complete the remainder of their round robin, prior to the Finals Weekend Tournament July 4th-6th in the North Shore. 

The NC Spirit have recently held trials in conjuction with the Canterbury Wildcats on Saturday 23rd February. The team will be announced in the coming weeks.
