KIWI HOOPS PLAYER, COACH & REFEREE INITIATIVE

Basketball Manawatu have  received funding through Sport Manawatu’s Kiwisport Fund and Basketball New Zealand for our Kiwi Hoops Player, Coach and Referee Initiative. We are now able to send our accredited Kiwi Hoops Coach and Referee trainers including some of the Manawatu Jets players into schools across the Manawatu, Tararua, Horowhenua and Whanganui regions.

The Kiwi Hoops modules developed by Basketball New Zealand are based on modified games and activities that provide fun and success for everyone. One of our main aims of the initiative is to encourage kids  who don’t usually participate in activities, to have an opportunity to do so. It also provides coaches, teachers, parents, volunteers and  administrators with a systematic and consistent approach to the development of players, coaches and referees.

Basketball Manawatu's practicum student, Brandon Moore has done a great job in term 2 rolling out the initial implementation of this program. Brandon who is in his final year at Massey University completing his Bachelor of Sport & Exercise, specialising in Coaching. Brandon is passionate about basketball, currently our U13 Boys Head Coach he is also Kiwi Hoops Qualified.

JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAY CAMPS

It was great to team up with The Jets and Whanganui Basketball Association for the July School Holiday Camps and we loved hitting the road in week 2 for camps in Levin, Whanganui & Pahiatua.
Our amazing Kiwi Hoops Coaches loved working with all 200 kids who came along over the 2 weeks!
