BBNZ Board Director Vacancy

Basketball New Zealand Inc
Basketball New Zealand is the national body for basketball in New Zealand. It is responsible for New Zealand’s national and international activities and commitments and works with its member Associations to develop, promote and foster basketball across New Zealand.
Basketball is a growth sport with increasing numbers of youth playing competitively, socially or simply having fun on a basketball court. Internationally New Zealand competes with distinction at the highest levels from under 16 through to adult. Basketball appeals to both genders, all ages, ethnicities and cultures – it is a global sport with unrealised potential in New Zealand.
Applications are invited for two positions on the Board of Directors. The vacancies exist due to the first terms of two existing Directors expiring – one Appointed and one Elected. Both incumbents are available to stand again. An Appointed Member must not have had any material interest or material involvement in basketball in the past four years. An Elected Member must, once elected, resign from any existing role in a basketball organisation.
Directors are volunteer positions, responsible for setting the strategic direction of basketball, national budgets and finance, meeting international obligations and monitoring progress against strategic and annual plans. The Board meets approximately eight times per annum, usually in Wellington.
A Board Appointment Panel will assess candidates against a range of criteria including:
 Clear understanding of Governance functions and principles
 Knowledge of and/or interest in basketball
 Knowledge of how community based or sporting programmes are run
 Occupational skills that add value to the Board business
 A strong network across the business and /or basketball community
The Board Appointment Panel will appoint a candidate to the Appointed position and will recommend candidates for election at the AGM, scheduled for Saturday 19 May.
If you believe you have the necessary attributes, please send a full CV and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role to: Vicki Lienert, Basketball New Zealand PO Box 6052, Marion Square, Wellington 6141 or email
Applications close on Monday 12 March 2018.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
