NINE goals to Spotswood’s Brandon Walshe highlighted a dominating 167-point thrashing of Wyndhamvale, giving the Woodsmen its first win of the season.
As it has been for most of the season so far in matches involving Wyndhamvale, the game was over by half time as the home side led by 95-points.
The margin only widened in the second half, as Spotswood was able to kick another 12-goals.
Thirteen other individual goal kickers added to Walshe’s nine goals, Lucas Dredge was the next best with four majors.
The most telling fact to come out of the game was that Spotswood had more behinds (19) than Wyndhamvale did total points (14).
The 27.19. (181) to 2.2. (14) win sees the Woodsmen jump Albion into seventh place.
After the bye, Spotswood travels to Sunshine to face the Roos, with Wyndhamvale hosting Altona.
Hoppers Crossing defeated Sunshine, 14.12. (96) to 6.3. (39) to maintain its position at the top of the ladder.
Both sides started strongly, but six goals in the second quarter to Hoppers saw its three-goal quarter time lead jump out to nine.
The Kangaroos were able to bridge the gap in the third term, kicking four goals to one.
But they weren’t able to bring the score any closer, as the Warriors kicked another two goals in the final quarter to run out 57-point winners.
The Warriors will next face eighth-placed Albion on May 28.
St. Albans was able to bounce back from a loss in Round Five to down Albion by 16-points.
The Saints appeared headed for an easy win after kicking five goals to none in the second term and led by 28-points at the half.
The Cats were able to kick five goals to three in the second half, but weren’t able to get across the line, going down 10.9. (69) to 8.5. (53).
Justin Mingovski’s four goals was the difference for the sixth placed Saints.
St. Albans faces a tough task in their next match when they go head-to-head with Werribee Districts.
In the round’s lowest scoring game, Altona scraped over the line in a 6.6. (42) to 4.3. (27) victory over Deer Park.
Both sides brought its defensive A-game, as there was just 10 goals combined kicked.
Three goals in the third quarter was the difference for the Vikings, as the Lions poor offensive output meant it couldn’t climb its way back into the match and bridge the final margin of 15-points.
The Lions now have the bye.
