THIS Sunday, a Victoria Police football team will take on a team of Indigenous stars at Pennell Reserve, with the two teams playing for the William Cooper Cup.
It will be the 15th year the two teams will face-off. The footy match is held annually as part of the National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) week festivities.
NAIDOC week is held in July each year and is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians make to our country.
Acting Senior Sergeant Tim Jacobs said the match was a great opportunity to break down the barriers between the Police and the local Indigenous youth.
“We are looking forward to a great game and maybe even a win,” he said.
“We hope to see as many locals coming down to support the two teams.”
The game kicks off at 12pm at Pennell Reserve in Braybrook.
