NORTH Sunshine kicked off its 2017 in stunning fashion on Saturday, despite the wild weather conditions.
The Roadrunners stunned the Sharks in the first game of the season, winning by 45-points at Dempster Park.
The home side got off to a flying start, opening up a 20-point lead at the main break.
After half-time North Sunshine kicked eight goals to four to record a big Round 1 victory against Sanctuary Lakes.
Brad Dick booted four goals for the Roadrunners, while Anthony Silva and Troy Smith also kicked three apiece.
Craig Pullen was named best on ground for the Sharks.
Meanwhile, Parkside’s match against Laverton was called off in the third quarter due to the extreme weather.
At the time the umpires called off the match the Magpies were up by 142-points.
New recruit, Jason Cloke was the star of the show. He kicked nine goals in what was a dominant display.
Brent Kelly, Matthew Shepperbottom and Chris Muratore also kicked three goals each.
Tarneit’s Round 1 opener with Sunshine Heights was also affected by the weather, with the game being called off in the third quarter.
The Titans were in-front when the match was called off by the umpires, so they score the win.
Finally, the Wyndham Suns’ match with Braybrook was stopped prior to half time and has been deemed a draw.
As per the laws of Australian football if a match finished prior to half-time the match shall be deemed to be drawn and the scores of the teams at the time of the match was interrupted will be used in calculating the percentage of each team.
