TARNEIT Titans have defeated Wyndham Suns in a gritty performance at Goddard Street Reserve.
Poor kicking was looking costly for the Titans early, as they kicked 2.7 in the first quarter to lead by just 13-points at quarter-time, though it could have been much more.
The Suns came out with a vengeance in the second term and looked to be in control of the game, with the Titans adding just one behind to their score, while the Suns scored three goals to lead by 11-points at the main break.
While Tarneit responded in the third term, they didn’t look to be in complete control as the led by just six points at the final change with the Suns raring to go.
An entertaining final term saw seven goals kicked, as Tarneit showed they have what it takes under pressure to take the four points, as they ran out 14-point winners.
The Suns could be ruing the missed opportunity come finals time, as they currently trail Sanctuary lakes by less than one percent, with both teams sitting on eight wins and six losses.
Also on eight wins is Sunshine Heights, however the Dragons face a much tougher road, needing to win their final game in Round 18, while needing the Suns and Sharks to lose their remaining games.
The dragons went down to ladder-leaders Newport by a massive 74-points, who remain premiership favourites having lost just two games this season.
Meanwhile, Sanctuary Lakes went down to Parkside by 53-points, while Braybrook had a morale boosting victory against Laverton as they won by 18-points.
This weekend, Tarneit travel to Parkside for an important finals shaping clash, which could determine which teams finishes in second spot.
Newport plays cellar dwellers Laverton at home. The Magpies could be looking to upset the Power and take one last scalp before their season closes.
The Wyndham Suns will be looking to secure their place in the finals as they play Braybrook at Pennell Reserve, while Sanctuary Lakes should make easy work of the Road Runners.
Sunshine Heights have the bye and will be resting up before their big clash in Round 18.
